Singer Mainul Ahsan Nobel has married the woman who accused him in a rape case. The marriage ceremony was held yesterday (Thursday, June 19, 2025) at the main gate of Keraniganj Central Jail under the supervision of prison authorities. Nobel, the bride, and four witnesses from both sides were present during the ceremony. Jahangir Kabir, Deputy Inspector General (DIG Prisons) of Dhaka Division, confirmed this information.
Court Approval and Prison Supervision
Earlier, a court granted permission for Nobel, who was arrested in the rape case, to marry. Magistrate Nazmin Akhter of the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court issued the order on Wednesday (June 18, 2025), following Nobel’s application. Sub-Inspector (SI) Ila Moni of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Crime and Information Division confirmed this.
Nobel’s lawyer, Jasim Uddin, and SI Ila Moni informed the media that the plaintiff in the rape case was present in court. Additionally, the accused, Nobel, formally requested permission to marry in writing to the court. With the consent of both parties, the court instructed the prison authorities to take necessary measures for the marriage.
The witnesses present at the wedding, held at the prison gate, were close associates from both sides: Najma Hossain, Sabiha Tarin, Khalilur Rahman, and Sadeq Ullah Bhuiyan.
Previous Allegations and Legal Proceedings
Singer Nobel has been in jail since May 20, after being arrested in the rape case. On that day, Nobel’s lawyer claimed in court that the woman alleging rape was his wife and that he had not committed rape. However, despite claiming the woman as his wife, Nobel’s lawyer Jasim Uddin could not submit a marriage certificate (Kabinnama) to the court. Nobel was accused of detaining and raping the woman in a house for seven months.
The investigating officer of the case, Inspector (Investigation) Md. Murad Hossain of Demra Police Station, stated, “The singer Nobel could not submit any documents to us proving he married the woman. Preliminary investigation revealed that there was a verbal marriage ceremony between Nobel and the woman in a house in jattarabari; however, there is no registered Kabinnama for the marriage.”
Demra police had also informed the court in writing that the woman met Nobel on Facebook seven years ago (in 2018). She was studying for her third year of Honours at a college in Dhaka, residing in a rented apartment in Mohammadpur. They used to communicate. On November 12 of last year, Nobel called the woman to show her his studio in Demra. When she tried to leave the house around 8 PM, Nobel snatched her mobile phone and later broke it. He then raped her and recorded a video of the rape. Afterward, he held her captive in that house for seven months by threatening her.
Police further informed the court that after the video of the woman’s torture went viral, her parents came to Dhaka. The woman was then rescued from Nobel’s house. Subsequently, on May 19, the victim filed a case against Nobel under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Nobel’s Controversial Past
Nobel, a native of Gopalganj, rose to prominence after participating in Zee Bangla’s reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. He drew criticism for controversial remarks made during the show. Later, his relationships with multiple women also sparked controversy. Despite the potential for a breakthrough in his music career through film songs, all these controversies overshadowed his prospects.
